## Exam facts (exam guide v1.2)

- 65 questions: 50 scored, 15 unscored (you can't tell which). 90 minutes.
- Scaled score 100-1,000; **700 to pass**. Compensatory scoring: you pass on total score, not per domain.
- Question types: multiple choice, multiple response (all correct options required; no partial credit), ordering, matching.
- No penalty for guessing: answer every question.
- Weights: D1 20%, D2 24%, D3 28%, D4 14%, D5 14%.

## Course readiness rule

80% or higher on **two** timed practice exams (practice-exam.md plus the instructor form). This is a course target, not an AWS score conversion: practice-test percentages don't map directly to scaled scores.

## Tactics

1. Read the last sentence first: what exactly is asked (most cost-effective? least operational overhead? most secure?).
2. Eliminate options that are out of scope, don't meet the constraint, or add unnecessary work.
3. Watch qualifiers: "managed," "minimal effort," "without ML expertise" usually point to a managed AI service or Bedrock.
4. Multiple response: the question says how many. Each must be right on its own.
5. Flag and move on after 90 seconds; return at the end.

## Worked example (fictional trainee)

Practice exam 1: 37/50 (74%). D3 9/14, D5 4/7. Review tasks 3.1 (approach choice) and 5.1 (security services); redo Lab 3 with a new chunking test; build 10 service flashcards. Practice exam 2 a week later: 42/50 (84%). Second form: 41/50 (82%). Schedule the exam.
